ALL SEASON RENTAL!
Magnificent colonial-era Berkshire home listed on the National Register of Historic Places
This five bedroom, three bath home in New Marlborough, Massachusetts, is located in the heart of the Berkshires, two-and-one-half hours north of New York City and a similar distance from Boston. The property is just 21 miles from Tanglewood, 10 miles from Norfolk and its extraordinary Yale Music School concerts, and 15 miles from the Berkshire Mountain Music Festival. Numerous public walking trails through shaded, secluded woods are accessible from your doorstep, and the scenic Appalachian Trail is just a 15 minute drive away.
Great restaurants, excellent shopping and other family diversions (including a new triplex theatre) can be found just 10 miles away in the town of Great Barrington or in the nearby towns of Lenox and Stockbridge (birthplace of Norman Rockwell and home of the Norman Rockwell Museum).
The house sits on nine acres and includes a new, in-ground, 45-foot pool that is great for both lap swimming and family fun. The pool is fully fenced for safety and its well-furnished patio makes it ideal for hanging out and lounging in sun.
The house is beautifully furnished with all the amenities of a family home. This is much more than a standard winter or summer rental! The first floor has a large gourmet country kitchen equipped with a dishwasher and a six-burner gas restaurant-style stove (with griddle) and other specialty appliances: microwave oven, juicer, food processor, bakery style KitchenAid mixer. A solarium style breakfast room comfortably seats six-to-eight. The pantry has abundant storage space as well as a full size washer and dryer. The house comes fully equipped with all linens, towels, china and tableware as well as an outdoor gas grill.
A large, candlelit dining room seats 12 and is perfect for both casual dining and more formal occasions. The fully-furnished living room is elegant and comfortable with its large working fireplace and an excellent stereo system with CD player. High speed wireless satellite internet service is accessible throughout the home. The first floor also boasts a newly renovated library, with TV/VCR/DVD (complete with Satellite Dish service). Its beautiful, cherry queen size Murphy bed is excellent for overflow guests or for those who prefer ground level accommodations Adjacent to the library is a brand new bathroom with double brass sinks, a Jacuzzi and a spacious steam shower. A large screened room and open porch faces the one acre lawn and garden and is ideal for afternoon parties or evening meals.
Five bedrooms are on the second floor and sleep a total of nine. Air conditioners serve four bedrooms and the downstairs library (with Murphy bed). The very large master bedroom has a queen-sized bed, desk and working fireplace as well as television/VCR. A second master bedroom at the other end of the house has a queen bed and adjacent private bath, making the house ideal for two families or couples. The third bedroom has two twin beds. The fourth bedroom contains a day bed with trundle and the fifth bedroom has a beautiful antique single bed. Both upstairs bathrooms are conveniently accessible to all the bedrooms and feature large claw-foot iron tubs especially suitable for bubble baths or tall people. A thermostatic attic fan and plenty of surrounding shade trees help maintain comfortable temperatures throughout the summer.
The house is located in the quaint village of New Marlborough, which is home to a wonderful 18th century Pony Express inn featuring three-star, candlelit cuisine - undoubtedly some of the best food in the Berkshires. Just two miles away is Southfield, with a gourmet wine shop and upscale cafe serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also nearby is Mill River, with its classic post office and general store that is well-stocked with sundries. Across the street from the general store is a brand new public library, with full internet access and state-of-the art computers. Also nearby is York Lake and scenic Umpachene Falls – both are lovely for swimming and picnicking.
The house is available for weekend, weekly, monthly or full summer rentals.
